On Sunday, March 9, community members, board members, and volunteers gathered to celebrate the groundbreaking of Home #45 at 1201 N Broadway in Hastings. This milestone marks the beginning of a new home for the Hammond-Cooper family, who were selected as the partner family for this build.

The ceremony featured opening remarks from Cindy Preston, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity Barry County, who spoke about the impact of the project and the power of community in making affordable homeownership a reality. A heartfelt dedication prayer was offered by Rev. Nick Marlatt of First Presbyterian Church in Hastings, blessing the family and all those involved in the build.

Afterward, Katelin Hammond turned the first shovel of dirt, marking the official start of construction. Overcome with gratitude, she expressed her heartfelt thanks to everyone who has made this opportunity possible for her family.

Expected to be completed in 2025, the home will be built with the help of dedicated volunteers, community partners, and the hard work of the Hammond-Cooper family themselves. Habitat for Humanity Barry County remains committed to bringing people together to build homes, communities, and hope.
